Southern Ocean Lodge Project

Early this month Southern Ocean Lodge opened on South Australia's Kangaroo Island. The island's first luxury wilderness lodge. Bholu features in every room, with unique and specifically designed homewares, and our new textural rugs make a feature in the Remarkable Suites, reflecting the form and texture of the island's famous "Remarkable Rocks".

Hotel Realm Project

Late last year we supplied the charcoal Bholu bed throws and toys for all rooms of the spanking new 5 Star hotel Hotel Realm in Canberra. The hotel is divine. Simple and elegant. We were lucky enough to even try out the hotel for a night. We give it the big thumbs up.

Just thought we would share some fav pics from India!

New Anganwadi with AWF

Our recent trip to India this month was more exciting than ever. Since meeting the fantastic leaders of AWF ( Architects Without Frontiers- Australia) Jane Rothschild and Sam Crawford at the Powerhouse D Factory, we have joined forces with building the next Bholu anganwadi in Ahmedabad. Architects Jane Rothschild and Paul Tilse voluntarily headed to India with us to give us their time, skills and expertise in the building of Bholu #2.

We surveyed the new location, a great little corner of the Tekra slums, with a lovely tree perfect for providing shade in the hot Indian summers. After a week surveying and design decisions over Indian chai, the plans are almost done. We hunted out old gates, doors and windows from flea markets and second hand shops. The outside decoration has also been designed, employing women from the area to decorate the elephant designs in traditional mud mirror technique. The contractors will all be local and building is scheduled to start in 3 weeks. Very exciting. For more pics of the adventures click here.

Kings and Queens

Yesterday we did a workshop and made these glorious hats.
We had so much fun but it was extra special because all the materials were donated by Eskimo Design in Sydney. What's extra extra special is that this recycling at its best. The card that we turned into crowns is actually the left over prints from their Christmas Cards.

Morning Prayer

This week we are doing workshops with our little mites at Bholu School. We started with a prayer and some songs. Seems that the best singer is the loudest singer? video

Moochinside

This weekend Moochinside hosted an exhibition of framed photographic images from our Bholu workshops in India.

Moochinside is a gorgeous homewares store in the tranquil area overlooking Hardy's Bay. Well worth taking the time to make the trip, they also have a great gallery space where our photos are currently hanging.

All proceeds from the sale of these framed photographs go towards supporting our new project in India, where we are building a "balwadi" which is a women and childrens'centre in the slums of Ahmedabad not far from our schools.

Moochinsiders (Margie & Pete McFadyen) support emerging artists and eco-friendly products with a sharp eye for design and simplicity. We thank them for giving Bholu the opportunity to showcase our story and support our endeavours to make a small change.
