Here is a quick update report from Jillian, our wonderful AWF Volunteer on site:
It was a shaky start with goats in our foundations, late bricks, unexpected holidays (no moon no work!) and some disinterested workers. After a breakfast with Jayesh-bhai and the joy of seeing windows and doors installed, the project has turned around and is really looking great. We even caught our builder Devgi-bhai with a shovel!
The design is looking good and we are trying some experiments with brickwork (not too many, as these workers might freak out!). We also love our bargain windows and doors from the Sunday Market and one from Padikalp. The front door even has some mini doors in it – special kiddy size! We have also found a local welder who is generously doing some free work for us. We hope he will help out with the front screen too.
Lots of animals on site – donkeys, monkeys, dogs, goats and a bull, not to mention the local kids who think my name is Jelly! We have named three local puppies – Lassi, Nimbu Pani and Masala!
