Bholu 10

Bholu 10 – Site Visit

OVERVIEW
JH visited the site with Neeta to discuss the Manav Sadna brief for this site – there is still clarification required from MS, and
purchase of land.
An additional issue is the ‘sinking’ cantilevered toilets in the gym of the community centre above. As these are not used anyway, MS
want to demolish the toilets. Some structural rectification is likely and could be incorporated into the Bholu 10 work. I could not
investigate the toilets without going into the houses.
SITE
The site currently incorporates 2 houses so reasonably large, and as it is attached to the community centre we expect that MS will
want to incorporate multiple uses. There is a great opportunity to follow on some of the recycled material experiments used in the
Community Centre.
Adjacent is a kiln / workshop making terracotta water pots and a recycling centre directly next door. Opposite is a grand gateway into
the recycling collection centre (admin).
Note also, that Manav Sadna still need to purchase the land, but have already made a verbal agreement with the owner.
BRIEF / PROCESS
To get started, we would like to undertake a mapping workshop (independently and with the community centre kids), considering
things like surrounding public spaces, services, routes for water collection, kite flying locations, shops & businesses nearby (such as
the kiln / potter next door).
Due to its size & location, this site is quite an urban design exercise, so we will also make a site model to understand the
relationships with surrounding areas.
