Here are Bholu we love to collaborate.
We love working with other creatives in other fields to create something magical. We work with all sorts of people with all sorts of skills from all sides of the globe, including our artisans in India and Bangladesh, our lamp makers in Australia, our web designer in London and of course our little artists in India.
Our most recent and very exciting collaboration is with Australian company Porter’s Paints on a Bholu range of wallpaper, which will be launched in Feb 17th 2010.
Bholu and Porters have been cooking up something pretty special for the last 6 months….. resulting in a beautiful collaboration of a new Wallpaper Collection for adults and children, as part of the “Designers for Porters Paints” Series. Bholu will join previous designers, Catherine Martin and Bowie in the Designer Series.
The Bholu Collection of wallpapers are inspired by the drawings of children in underprivileged communities in India. The range embraces the textural qualities of the traditionally, hand embroidered textiles which Bholu is known for.
Designer Jodie Fried has made sure that it is exactly these qualities along with the vibrancy of the felt colours and the subtle, earthy linen tones that are echoed through into the wallpaper.
Jodie Fried on her designs:
“It is the beauty of India that inspires me; the colour, the textures, the patterns, the people and the celebrations, but most of all it is the artisans and children that we work with that inspire my designs and bring them to life. It is very exciting to be collaborating with Porter’s Paints and taking the Bholu textile range, into another dimension and craft; in turn continuing to give back to their communities.”
Porter’s Paints will be donating a percentage of the sales of the Bholu collection to the ‘Bholu Anganwadi Project’, which rebuilds “Anganwadi’s” (preschools) for slum children in under privileged communities in India. Bholu has now built 8 schools with more than 280 children attending and daily receiving education, nutrition and love. (www.anganwadiproject.com)
Porters Paints are a very like-minded company and only ever use the finest raw materials for their beautiful paints. Instead of mass-production through cheaper (often harmful) materials, or using less accurate in-store tinting machines, Porter’s Paints continues to make and check each and every batch of paint itself, thereby guaranteeing superior finish, depth and complexity of colour.
Porter’s Paints still makes paint and wallpaper by traditional methods and to original formulations, producing an unrivalled depth of colour. Their finishes have been created to ensure harmony and depth, whether inside or outside the home and regardless of style.
An additional bonus to Porter’s Paints amazing colours is that they that many of the VOC levels (Volatile Organic Compound) in their paints fall into the zero VOC paint category or below the Australian target level.

The Bholu Wallpaper collection is made and printed in Sydney, Australia. The paints used are of course beautiful quality Porter’s Paints and the paper is printed on a traditional printing press, and operated all by hand, just like the good old days.
Printing experts keep a close eye on the printing machine and make sure the print quality and colour is exactly how it should be.
The range is officially being launched and available in Porter’s stores on Feb 17th 2010.
